Evgeny Nikitin

EVGENY NIKITIN was born in Murmansk (Russia). He was a member of a heavy metal band before he decided to pursue a career as a classical vocalist. Already during his studies at St. Petersburg Conservatory, he was engaged by Mariinsky Theatre, where he has appeared regularly in major roles. Soon, he made his debut at major opera companies, e.g. the New York Metropolitan Opera in 2002 in War and Peace. In engagements that followed he sang Colline, Pogner, Fasolt, Orest, Wanderer, Rangoni, Klingsor there. At Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris he made his debut in the title role of Rubinstein’s The Demon, returning as Boris Godunov in 2005. His current roles at Opéra national de Paris include Jochanaan, Tomski, Gunther, Orest. At Bayerische Staatsoper he debuted in 2008 as Jochanaan and since then has been singing Klingsor, Telramund, Holländer. In the near future, he will appear as Gunther (Met), Wotan (Bordeaux), Don Pizarro (Luxembourg). At Vienna State Opera, he made his debut in 2015 as Shaklovity and he has also sung Don Pizarro and Scarpia here.
