Andrea Carroll

Hailed as ‘a miracle of freshness and brightness’, American/Guatemalan soprano Andrea Carroll is in huge demand with opera houses across the US and Europe. Between 2015-2020 Andrea spent five seasons on the ensemble at the Wiener Staatsoper, performing 15 leading roles for the company.
In the 22/23 season Andrea makes a series of house debuts, including for The Metropolitan Opera as Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Micaëla (Carmen) for Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) for Canadian Opera Company, a house and role debut as Cunegonde in a new production of Candide at Opéra National de Lyon, as well as returning to Palm Beach Opera as Nannetta (Falstaff). Further ahead Andrea will make her Royal Opera House debut as well as plans to return to Houston Grand Opera, Teatro alla Scala and the Metropolitan Opera.
Highlights of the 21/22 season included Andrea’s Teatro alla Scala debut as Zerlina, Adina (L'elisir d'amore) for the Wiener Staatsoper, Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) for Houston Grand Opera and a return to San Diego Opera as Beatriz in Daniel Catan’s La Hija de Rappaccini.
On the ensemble at the Wiener Staatsoper, Andrea’s roles included Zerlina, Susanna, Gilda (Rigoletto), Musetta (La bohème), Norina (Don Pasquale), Adina, Pamina, Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Woglinde (Das Rheingold/Götterdämmerung), and Stimme des Waldvogels in Siegfried, among others.
Notable operatic engagements have included Pamina for Dallas Opera, Adina at Den Norske Opera, Leïla (Les pêcheurs de perles) for Houston Grand Opera, Musetta for San Diego Opera, Mélisande in a new production of Pelléas et Mélisande and Adèle (Le Comte Ory) for Garsington Opera and Micaëla for the Tokyo Philharmonic. Andrea has created the roles of Mary Bailey in Jake Heggie's It's a Wonderful Life with Houston Grand Opera, Kitty in Johannes Maria Staud's Die Weiden at the Wiener Staatsoper and made her house debut at Washington National Opera as Rosalba in Daniel Catan's Florencia en el Amazonas.
Andrea trained at the Manhattan School of Music before joining the Young Artist Program at Glimmerglass Opera and spent two years on the Young Artist Program at Houston Grand Opera. Among her many accolades, Andrea was a finalist in the 2015 Operalia competition, winner of the 2012 Eleanor McCollum Competition and a 2018 recipient of the Richard Tucker Career Grant.
