Among the top priorities of the private cultural association Ballettclub Wiener Staatsoper & Volksoper is the promotion of young dancers of the Wiener Staatsballett as well as young choreographers who are members of the company. The discovery of newcomers in particular is a matter of concern to the Ballettclub. To provide the creative talents with a platform for presenting their work, the Ballettclub has taken on the role of promoter and organiser since 2003, initiating the “choreo.lab” series of projects, which was renamed “Young Choreographers of the Wiener Staatsballett” when Manuel Legris became Director. This year’s event will be held on 7 and 8 May 2017 at Theater Akzent. 45 new pieces have been created to date – another twelve will be added to this list in 2017. Individual works have been included into the repertoire of the Wiener Staatsballett, were shown internationally and served the neo-choreographers as a springboard for a career as choreographer.
