With the dramatic appearance of the Stone Guest, who bursts into Don Giovanni's life like a force of nature, Mozart opens the door to an unfamiliar world of sound with the very first bars. Few have worked out this overwhelming effect as consistently as Teodor Currentzis and his ensemble.

After that we experience great singers in the recording history of Don Giovanni. Whether Bryn Terfel as Leporello, Lucia Popp as Zerlina, Margaret Price as Donna Anna, Kiri Te Kanawa as Elvira or the Giovanni actors Cesare Siepi and Ruggero Raimondi (in the soundtrack to Joseph Losey's film version) - they have all made a significant contribution to the reception history of the »opera of all operas«. Not to forget Carlo Maria Giulini, who conducted the EMI production in 1959 at the last minute for Otto Klemperer, who was ill, and offered a stellar performance with a unique ensemble of singers; here Gottlob Frick embodied the elemental force of the Stone Guest, alongside Eberhard Wächter (Giovanni) and Giuseppe Taddei (Leporello).
