CHANGE OF PERFORMANCES AT THE BEGINNING OF THE VIENNA STATE OPERA SEASON

Cancellations due to illness of Roberto Alagna and Sonya Yoncheva - who would have sung Eléazar and Rachel, respectively, in the revival of La Juive - necessitate a change of schedule in the first days of the new season. Instead of La Juive, La bohème and an additional performance of Carmen will be shown with remarkable casts.

State Opera Director Bogdan Roščić: »Juive is a particularly important production in the repertoire of the State Opera, but also a particularly demanding and rarely performed work. It was therefore impossible to make such a far-reaching reshuffle immediately before rehearsals began. We are all the more grateful to the artists now performing for their flexibility and willingness to make this change to the programme possible, despite many scheduling conflicts.«

In La bohème, the role of Mimì will be sung by Anna Netrebko on three evenings (5, 11 and 18 September), and by Eleonora Buratto on 8 September. Vittorio Grigolo will sing Rodolfo (except 18 September: cast N.N.). Günther Groissböck, cast as Cardinal Brogni in La Juive, embodies Colline, George Petean Marcello. The Eudoxie of the Juive series, Nina Minasyan, sings Musetta. Bertrand de Billy, who would also have conducted the Juive revival, is at the conductor's podium.

On 14 September, an additional performance of Carmen is scheduled instead of La Juive, making extra tickets available for the completely sold-out series: Elīna Garanča will be in the title role, Piotr Beczała as Don José, Erwin Schrott as Escamillo and Slávka Zámečníková as Micaëla; Yves Abel will conduct.

Tickets already purchased for the performances on 5, 8, 11, 14 and 18 September remain valid, but can also be returned due to the performance changes. You can find more information here. Tickets are still available for all these performances. Click here to go to the ticket shop.
