Wiener Staatsoper for mobility-impaired visitors
As a historical and listed monument, the Vienna state opera building does not always offer ideal conditions for visitors with limited mobility. We are committed to making sure that visitors with limited mobility can attend a performance without obstruction.
There are 4 designated wheelchair spaces in the orchestra stalls for visitors with limited mobility with a companion seat. In addition, there are up to 18 designated wheelchair spaces with a companion seat on the balcony. High in demand, the seats are allocated in writing on a first-come, first-served basis by the reservation office

for the current season also by calling +43-1-514 44-2653 Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
The barrier-free access to the building is located at Herbert v. Karajan square at the beginning of the arcades (swinging door 87 cm wide).
You can reach the orchestra stalls (»Parkett«) level and the access to the lift to the balcony via the inclined lift in the area of Café Oper Wien. From there the lift to the balcony is directly accessible (width 95 cm, depth 140 cm, clearance 80 cm). Both lifts are serviced by ushers. On both levels there are cloakrooms, snack bars and disabled toilets.
From the »Best in Parking« underground car park at Kärnterstrasse (with 2 disabled parking spaces) there is a lift to Herbert von Karajan Platz. Another lift from the underground car park takes you directly into the opera building, but is not accessible for all wheelchairs owing to its dimensions (depth 1.15 m, width 1.55 m, clearance to exit 80 cm).
Disabled parking spaces are currently available at Operngasse 8, Helmut Zilk Platz 1 and at Walfischgasse No 1 and No 6.
Assistance dogs permitted.
Naturally, you can also join a guided tour if you are a wheelchair user. Individuals need not register in advance, just present yourself at the entrance (corner Operngasse) 15 minutes ahead of time.
