Details

In his much-appraised production of Jacques Offenbach's »Les Contes d'Hoffmann«, director Andrei Serban emphasizes mysterious, bizarrely fantastic and dreamlike delusions. These aspects are conjured up by the title character in her reactions toward an oppressive and frustrating reality. Serban impressively highlights the artist who is lost in everyday life and fails in his relationship with women, and who is only able to unfold his inner depths with a quill in his hand. Juan Diego Flórez's first Vienna role as Hoffmann in May is highly anticipated, whom he will perform immediately following his international Faust role debut. The other central roles will also be depicted with new cast members: such as Erwin Schrott in the roles of the four »villains«, Sabine Devieilhe as Olympia, Tamuna Gochashvili (Tatjana in the »Eugene Onegin« premiere) as Antonia, Louise Alder as Giulietta and Michèle Losier as Muse /Nicklausse.
