Catarina Pires

Catarina Pires was born in Faro, Portugal, and trained at the Zurich Dance Academy under the direction of Steffi Scherzer and Oliver Matz. In 2020, she joined the Junior Company of Het Nationale Ballet Amsterdam. Two years later she became an Élève and in 2023 a dancer in the Corps de ballet of the Dutch ensemble. She has danced in works by George Balanchine, Rachel Beaujean, William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, Christian Spuck, Rudi van Danzig, Hans van Manen and Sir Peter Wright, among others. In 2020, she was a finalist at the Prix de Lausanne and won both the Audience Favourite Award and a scholarship. Since the 2024/25 season Catarina Pires is a member of the Vienna State Ballet and has danced in Rudolf Nureyevʼs Swan Lake, Martin Schläpferʼs Sleeping Beauty and Pathétique, Christopher Wheeldonʼs The Winterʼs Tale and John Neumeierʼs The Lady of the Camellias, among others.
