Michael Güttler

Hailing from Dresden, the conductor MICHAEL GÜTTLER has, thanks to his recent spectacular last-minute stand-in for Valery Gergiev for both Der Ring and Parsifal at the Mariinsky Theatre, come to the fore as one of the leading young conductors of his generation. From 1998 - 2002 he was the youngest Principal Conductor in Austria at the State Theatre in Klagenfurt; since 2003 he has been Permanent Guest Conductor at the Mariinsky Theatre. He has an extensive repertoire; his stylistic versatility ranges from the baroque to the contemporary. From 2013-2016 he was Principal Conductor at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki. In previous seasons, he has taken to the conductor’s podium in Yekaterinburg and St. Petersburg, at the Semper Opera House, Hamburg State Opera, in Tokyo, Frankfurt, Nizza, Washington, Paris, Moscow, Lisbon und Verona, amongst others. Regular performances at these locations are scheduled for coming seasons. Further projects: Pique Dame at the Chemnitz Theatre and Don Giovanni in Lausanne. He gave his debut performance at the Vienna State Opera in 2010 with Rigoletto and has made regular appearances here ever since.
