Javier Camarena

JAVIER CAMARENA was born in Veracruz, Mexico. After finishing his studies in Guanajuato, he won the Carlo Morelli singing competition in Mexico in 2004 and the Juan Oncina Special Award at the Francisco Viñas competition in 2005. In 2004, he gave his debut performance at the Palacio de Bellas Artes as Tonio in La Fille du régiment. As a member of the ensemble of the Zurich Opera House he has sung, amongst others, the roles of Lindoro (L’italiana in Algeri), Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia von Paisiello und Rossini, Belfiore (La finta giardiniera) and has appeared in Così fan tutte, La fedeltà premiata, Mosè in Egitto, Les Pêcheurs de perles, Le Comte Ory, Falstaff, The Abduction from Seraglio and Rossini’s Otello. Guest appearances have taken him to opera houses all over the world, to such places as Paris, Munich, Dresden, Brussels, Barcelona, Madrid, New York and San Francisco. At the Salzburg Festival he appeared as Fenton and Belmonte in 2013 as well as Ramiro in 2014. His current engagements include, amongst others, I puritani at the Met, La Fille du régiment and Rigoletto at the Liceu in Barcelona as well as La cenerentola at the Bavarian State Opera. He gave his debut performance at the Vienna State Opera in 2007 as Almaviva in Barbiere and has also sung the roles of Nemorino and Lindoro.
