The first conductor of the Hamburg Ballet and designated first Kapellmeister of the Stuttgart Opera studied conducting, piano and clarinet at the University of Queensland and completed his studies in conducting as a scholar in the Hochschule for Music "Franz Liszt"! in Weimar. Simon Hewett's most important engagements - he equally conducts opera, ballet and concert hall literature - include obligations to the Opera Australia in Sydney and Melbourne, the West Australian Opera in Perth, the Hamburg State Opera, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and the Komische Oper in Berlin, the Ballet of the Paris Opera and the Stuttgart Opera. As a concert conductor, he has worked together with all the big Australian symphony orchestras, the Elision Contemporary Music Ensemble and a range of German orchestras, including the Brandenburger Symphoniker. Simon Hewett celebrated his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper in 2012 with Juwelen der Neuen Welt II.
