ANITA RACHVELISHVILI was born in Tbilisi (Georgia) and studied piano followed by vocal studies. At an early age, she received a state scholarship and won the Paata Burchuladze Prize. Still a student, she gave performances at the Tbilisi Opera and soon became a member of the ensemble. In 2007 she was selected for the Young Artist’s Program at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Her international break came in December 2009 with her performance as Carmen in the new production at La Scala under Daniel Barenboim. She has also performed the role of Carmen at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, with Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Berlin State Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Seattle Opera, San Francisco Opera, Canadian Opera Company, at the Arena di Verona, Paris Opera and at other theatres. She has also sung the role of Amneris in Verona, at La Scala and in Paris and Rome; Marfa (Chowanschtschina) in Amsterdam; Azucena in London and Dalila in Paris. Current engagements include Carmen at the Semper Opera House and in Munich and Azucena in New York, Paris and Berlin.
