The bass baritone BRYN TERFEL receives engagements to all the important stages in the world like the Met, the Scala, the ROH Covent Garden and the Paris Opera. He gave his opera debut in 1990 as Guglielmo at the Welsh National Opera. His international career began in 1991 as the Sprecher in Mozart’s Magic Flute at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels and – in the same year – as Figaro at the Santa Fe Opera. Other important roles in his repertoire include among others Falstaff, Hans Sachs (Meistersinger), Wotan/Wanderer (Ring), Holländer, Méphistophélès (Faust), Don Giovanni and Leporello, Jochanaan, Scarpia, the leading role in Gianni Schicchi, Nick Shadow (The Rake’s Progress), Wolfram, Balstrode (Peter Grimes), the four villains (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Dulcamara and the leading role in Sweeney Todd. Current performances include among others Holländer, Hans Sachs and Boris Godunow in London, Falstaff in Zurich and at the Verbier Festival, Scarpia in Monte Carlo, Paris and Berlin. At the Wiener Staatsoper, he gave his debut as Figaro and has since also sung Don Giovanni, Leporello, Falstaff, Balstrode, Jochanaan, the four villains in Contes d‘Hoffmann, Scarpia, Holländer.
