ANGELA GHEORGHIU is considered one of the most important singers of her genre. She came from Romania, visited the Music School in Bukarest and finally studied at the Music University there. She gave her international debut in 1992 at the ROH Covent Garden in La Bohème. In the same year, she had debuts at the Met, and the Wiener Staatsoper, and in 1994 she sang her first Traviata in London. Since then, she is a sought after guest at the important opera and concert stages in New York, London, Paris, Salzburg, Berlin, Tokyo, Rome, Seoul, Venice, Athens, Monte Carlo, Chicago, Philadelphia, Sao Paolo, Los Angeles, Valencia, Palermo, Amsterdam, Kuala Lumpur, Zurich, Vienna, Salzburg, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Prague, Montreal, Moscow and Taipei. Angela Gheorghiu, who has a large number of award winning recordings, has also received several awards (Female Artist of the Year 2001 and 2010, Medaille Vermeille de la Ville de Paris, Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres, Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres, Doctor Honoris Causa der Kunstuniversität Iasi). At the Wiener Staatsoper, she has sung Mimì, Adina, Nannetta, Marguerite, Violetta, Tosca, Charlotte and Adriana Lecouvreur.
