Michael Rakotoarivony initially studied at the University of Antananarivo, Madagascar (history, English) but switched to the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he received a bachelor’s degree in 2018. He went on to study at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar. He has won numerous competitions, including the Rosenblatt Recitals Competition, London 2017 (1st place), John Warner Award, Chichester 2018 (1st place), Marjorie Thomas Art Song Prize, Royal Academy of Music, London 2018 (1st place), Concours d’Opéra en Arles 2019 (1st place). His roles include Masetto and Leporello in Don Giovanni, Polyphemus in Acis and Galetea, Escamillo in Carmen, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, and Schaunard in La Bohème. He also conducts professionally. Michael Rakotoarivony is a member of the Wiener Staatsoper Opera Studio from the 2020/21 season.
