Roberto Frontali

Roberto Frontali is considered one of the most important Italian baritones of his generation. At the beginning of his career, he focused on Belcanto roles by Rossini, Bellini, and Donizetti, later delving into the Verdi repertoire, and more recently, Puccini and Verismo. He made his opera debut in 1986 in his hometown of Rome in Spontini's Agnes von Hohenstaufen. In the 1990s, he debuted at New York's Met (L’elisir d’amore), Milan's La Scala (Beatrice di Tenda), and portrayed Figaro (Il barbiere) at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London and the Vienna State Opera. Among his recent engagements, notable performances include Michonnet (Adriana Lecouvreur) and Simon Boccanegra at the Vienna State Opera, as well as in Buenos Aires and Berlin, Macbeth in Paris, and Golaud (Pelléas et Mélisande) in Florence. He has also portrayed Rigoletto at the Met and Teatro Real in Madrid, Falstaff in Los Angeles and Lausanne, Fanciulla del West at the San Francisco Opera and in Palermo, Cavalleria rusticana in Rome, Tosca in San Francisco, Venice, and Sao Paulo, Michele (Tabarro) and Gianni Schicchi at the Theater an der Wien and in Copenhagen. He debuted as Iago (Otello) in Naples and later performed this role in Turin, among other locations. Current engagements include Scarpia at the Royal Opera House in London, Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, and Tokyo, Alfanos Cyrano de Bergerac at the New York Met, and Fanuèl in Boito's Nerone in Cagliari.
