JULIA JONES
JULIA JONES comes from England where she began her studies at the Chethams School of Music in Manchester. Her studies continued at Bristol University and she concluded them at the Guildhall School of Music in London. She began as a coach in the operas houses of Cologne and Stuttgart. In 1991 she conducted the premiere of Perseus and Andromeda by Salvatore Sciarrino. Thereupon she became an assistant of Hans Werner Henze in the summer academy of Gütersloh. From 1991 to 1995 she was Deputy conductor and Assistant to the Music Director in the Municipal Theater of Ulm. From 1995 to 1997 she moved to the Staatstheater Darmstadt where she was Principal Conductor. Engagements followed at, amongst other places, the Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg as well as at the Basel Opera where she was Principal Conductor from 1998 to 2002. In addition she has been a guest conductor at, amongst other places, the Teatro Comunale di Firenze, in Palermo as well as at Opera Australia in Melbourne. She made her debut at the Vienna State Opera in October 2001 with The Magic Flute. In the 2003/04 season she conducted La Bohème here. In the 2004/05 season she will conduct performances of Così fan tutte, The Magic Flute and La Bohéme. |
